Equus Estates
Make a Stable Investment
Equus Estates is a Realtor partnership between Cheryl Dewson and Telf Maynard. Together, they have over 80 years experience in all things equestrian, and over 30 years experience in real estates sales. Equus Estates specializes exclusively in selling farms, ranches and equestrian estates throughout Greater Vancouver, the Fraser Valley, the Sea-To-Sky region, the Sunshine Coast, the Gulf Islands, the Nicola Valley, and all of Vancouver Island.
Horse properties, farms and ranches are unique types of real estate, and selling or buying one is far more involved than buying or selling a house or condo. Whether you’re dealing with a site profile, business plan, flood plain, soil quality, water wells, septic systems, ring drainage, footing, hog fuel removal, boarding barn revenues, farm taxes, ALR laws, farm financing, or just simply whether or not to install automatic waterers, our exclusive knowledge and industry experience is unrivalled. If we don’t already know the answer, we know who does.
Whether you’re buying or selling, Telf and Cheryl together bring the knowledge and skills necessary to help you make the right decision at the right price. Our extensive contacts in the horse world throughout BC and internationally can help us sell your farm to just the right buyer, or possibly find you a place to buy that no-one else even knew was for sale!
Cheryl & Telf are now looking forward to a new relationship with the Brooke, a foundation devoted to promoting equine animal welfare and health in the world’s poorest communities.
Give us a call! We look forward to meeting you.
About Telf
Telf Maynard has been extensively involved in the horse industry his entire life. His grandparents were founding members of Southlands Riding Club in Vancouver, and as a boy Telf enjoyed frequent trips to Calgary, where his parents were Spruce Meadows’ first official photographers. Telf’s family currently owns and operates Maynard’s Tack Shop, Southlands Equestrian Centre, Maynard’s Pony Meadows, and Southlands Heritage Farms.
Over the years Telf has shown in Hunters, Jumpers and Dressage, competed in Prince Philip Games, Gymkhanas, Tetrathlon and Pentathlon, and even travelled to Australia with the Canadian Polocrosse Team (as a spectator/groom). Until recently, Telf also worked most summers as a Hunter/Jumper announcer at shows in BC and Alberta, and still frequently volunteers at Pony Club events and as a Pony Club Regional Examiner. Besides horses, Telf’s other interests include SCUBA diving (he is a certified PADI Instructor), volunteering with the Vancouver Police Department, flying airplanes and float planes, and amateur radio (his callsign is VE7TLF).
Despite Telf’s lifelong involvement in all things equestrian, his professional background is in computers. As a self-employed computer tech and business owner for 15 years, Telf owned and operated Canadian Computer Consulting and also worked as Executive Director of the not-for-profit internet recruiting website,CareerOwl Institute. His technical and business skills have proven very useful in the new “high-tech” world of real estate sales, and in 2006 Telf sold his computer company and now works exclusively as a Realtor.
About Cheryl
Cheryl Dewson grew up in Alberta as Cheryl Greenough. Her family has been involved in the equestrian world since the turn of the century—from ranching, raising polo ponies, show jumping, and as one of the original founders of the Calgary Stampede.
Cheryl’s real estate career has always been specialized, with many years focusing on project marketing and successfully selling more than a 1,000 properties. But her passion has always been horses, and with that she has devoted herself to the management and sale of equestrian properties.
Consistently successful as a Realtor, Cheryl is well-known for her professionalism, strong negotiating ability and award-winning marketing skills. She contributes these talents to the equestrian community and has recently raised over $1,200,000 for the new Southlands trail system in Vancouver to commence construction in 2011.
Some of her equestrian heroes are Xenophon, Jay O’Jay, Linda Kohanov, Catherine Cote, Ian Millar, and Ingrid Klimke.
