AbbotsfordAbbotsford is BC’s fifth-largest community, with one of the most diverse demographics of any municipality in Canada. Its southern boundary is the Canada-US border. On the Canadian side, it is bordered by Langley to the west, the Fraser River and Mission to the north, and Chilliwack to the east. About ¾ of the City of Abbotsford is in the Agricultural Land Reserve (ALR) and the city accounts for almost ¼ of the Province’s gross farm receipts. There are between 3000 and 5000 horses in the Abbotsford area. The equestrian community consists of several non profit and clubs and associations. Abbotsford's Ag Rec Exhibition Park indoor arena has a sand footing and hosts many equestrian events. Equestrian trail systems include the Trans Canada Trail with a link to Douglas Taylor Park and the dyke systems such as the Matsqui and Sumas Vedder trails. Equestrian sporting categories are breed sports, eventing, dressage, endurance, hunter/jumper, pony club, reining, para-equestrian, saddle seat and vaulting.
